Chasing Charlie - #BookBeginnings on Friday and The #Friday56

     If you're in the mood for a sweet romance (sexual tension but no sex, no profanity) and enjoy a story with an entertaining plot, then you'll love Chasing Charlie. Librarian Charlotte Nelson ("Charlie") takes one tiny step outside her ultra-conservative existence, buys a stunning red dress, and before long she reluctantly agrees to masquerade as Davis Murphy's fiancée for one evening. As they say, trouble ensues.
     I liked the characters in this sweet love story and enjoyed escaping in the plot. The book was well written, and I saw no grammatical or other errors, which I always appreciate. Chasing Charlie is Book 1 in the Texas Two-Step Series, and it stands alone.

Bluebonnet Spring - #TeaserTuesday and First Chapter/First Paragraph/Tuesday Intros

    Set on the Big Island of Hawaii and in the Texas hill country, Bluebonnet Spring is the story of widowed Rebecca Barton (who is "on the wrong side of thirty") and hunky Doug West (ditched by phone by his fiancée on the eve of their Hawaiian wedding). Rebecca is in Hawaii doing research on how hotels operate before deciding whether or not to open an inn back in Canela, Texas. When they meet, Doug suggests they share his honeymoon package - plantonically, of course. It would be a shame for it to go to waste. When the week is over, they go their separate ways - Doug to Detroit; Rebecca to Canela. But is that the end for them?
    I enjoyed visiting Hawaii through this book - and I love bluebonnets! It also was fun to see Rebecca change through the course of the story.  

Bluebonnet Spring is a sweet romance with no sex and no profanity.

The Little French Guesthouse - #BookBeginnings on Friday and The #Friday56

    I just finished reading The Little French Guesthouse, and now I'm tempted to buy a ticket to France. How I'd love to spend a month in the French countryside and stay in a cozy guesthouse like the one described in Helen Pollard's well-written romance. My passport is ready! 
    Not only is this a romance, it's also a story about taking chances. The plot takes an unusual turn as Emmy becomes more than a pampered guest and ends up helping run the resort. Will the challenges thrust upon her cause her to reexamine her life?
    I enjoyed getting to know Pollard's characters and being immersed in the day-to-day operations of running a country retreat. I'm looking forward to reading more stories by this talented author, including this book's sequel, Return to the Little French Guesthouse.

Seeing You Again - Book Beginnings on Friday and The Friday 56

     Is a red sequined dress enough to catch a husband's attention? In this short and sweet romance, Joselyn Vaughn introduces us to a couple whose marriage has lost its sizzle. But an evening with a bunch of zany senior citizens may shake things up.
     I enjoyed this story on many levels. First of all, the hero and heroine seem like real people, and they have real love for one another. They just happen to be in a slump! I also like the inclusion of men and women from the retirement home. They add humor to the story and show that just because you've grown older doesn't mean you don't know how to have fun.

     When someone asks me how Linda and I got to know each other, I usually answer, "Highchairs." Ours was not what you would call a torrid romance. To the contrary, the relationship was almost platonic. Linda and I were comfortable together, relaxed, under no stress, neither of us inclined to go along with what everyone else might have considered a good relationship for two middle-aged people. Sexual intimacy was never a big issue, which is not to say that I didn't find Linda incredibly stunning. And, though some would have said I was past my prime, I wasn't ready to be cremated and have my ashes scattered over the Trout River. Those were the instructions I used to give my wife Gretchen.

The 13 of Hearts - Book Beginnings on Friday and The Friday 56

      A young mother on the run. A Marine coping with the aftereffects of war. Those are the major conflicts in The 13 of Hearts. The author does a great job of conveying her characters' thoughts and fears. She goes deep. I enjoy the way she reveals their pasts, little by little, with surprises along the way. Pete and Lin don't fall instantly in love--both of them have a lot of baggage--and this story is much more than a simple boy-meets-girl romance. 
      The 13 of Hearts is Book Five of the Heart Stories and is a sweet romance with no sex scenes or profanity. It is free of typographical and grammatical errors, which I always appreciate.
      *FYI: In honor of her late friend, author Monique O'Connor James, Kay Springsteen is donating royalties from the sale of this book to author Kristine Cheney for her fight against breast cancer.

She lifted her hands to his neck and ran her fingers through the dark hair above his collar. When his lips touched hers, a wave of heat surged from her lips all the way to her toes.

Leaning back, Derek smiled and brushed Elly’s curls from her cheek. “I’ve been wanting to do that ever since I picked you up, and there’s no way Mrs. M was going to stop me.”

A blush warmed Elly’s cheeks. She leaned forward and they kissed until she could barely breathe. When his tongue explored her mouth, she leaned even closer, tilting her head, savoring his taste. Derek’s lips moved from her mouth along the curve of her jaw to a sweet spot right beneath her earlobe. She caught her breath when goosebumps traveled along her arms.

When they stopped to catch their breath, Derek looked around as if expecting someone to tap on his window and ask them to move along. Then he chuckled, and the low rumble of his laughter warmed Elly even more. “I feel like a teenager, making out in the car, don’t you? I guess I’d better get you home.”

Elly nodded and moved back to her side of the truck.

He’s right, of course. But, ooooh, he’s a good kisser.

*BLUEBONNETS FOR ELLY falls into the sweet category. There's plenty of fooling around and sexual tension between Derek and Elly, but when they get down to the nitty gritty, the bedroom door is closed.

Hearts in Ruin - Teaser Tuesday

HEARTS IN RUIN by J. C. Conway is classified as a sweet contemporary romance, but I'd call it fiction with romantic elements. Although there's plenty of sexual tension between the hero and heroine, there is equal focus on their archaeological dig. Conway did a great job of creating a strong female character in Andrea, a doctoral candidate. I enjoyed getting to know her. His hero is interesting too and not a stereotypical macho male. Both characters are intelligent, likable people. I always enjoy learning something while reading fiction, and I found this story to be fascinating.

Six Months in Montana - The Friday 56 and Book Beginnings on Friday

I love western romances, and SIX MONTHS IN MONTANA is a good one. The main characters are likable (well, except for the ex-girlfriend) and the plot is fun. My only complaint is that the descriptions of food and wine made me hungry! This book is a sweet escape and right now it's free on Amazon.

"This is a joke, right?" Christian Ford looked at his lawyer and best friend, Travis Jones, in disbelief. Now he understood why Travis had insisted that he come by his office for an official reading of his grandfather's will. The Friendship Star Quilt - Teaser Tuesday

I enjoy quilting and I love to read contemporary romance, so I knew THE FRIENDSHIP STAR QUILT would be the perfect book for me - especially since I'd already read and enjoyed the first book in The Stitching Post Romances series. Co-authors Patricia Kiyono and Stephanie Michels blend their voices seamlessly in this story of an abused woman trying to start a new life.

Today I'm featuring my main character, Elly Macauley, in this excerpt from BLUEBONNETS FOR ELLY. Elly has moved from Dallas to a senior-citizen neighborhood to help her grandmother recover from an injured ankle. 

EXCERPT:
     What a life. Not what she’d expected to be doing at age twenty-five. Instead of a high-rise Dallas apartment, she lived in a cramped mobile home in small-town Shannon Ridge, Texas. Instead of working as an interior designer, she spent her days doling out her grandmother’s medications. Instead of driving a decent car, she had to rely on a tricked-out geriatric golf cart for transportation.

If Granny hadn’t tumbled off that curb—if Rick hadn’t turned out to be such a shit—if she’d been born an heiress to a great fortune. Sometimes ifs seemed to rule her life, but the immediate problems were not just ifs but what ifs. What if she got caught living in a retirement village where she wasn’t supposed to be? What would Granny do without her? And when the time did come for her to move out, what if she couldn’t find a job?

She sighed. Right now, this was her life and there wasn’t an alternative.
