Yosemite National Park - Saturday Snapshots

Yosemite's 125th Anniversary LogoWhile looking through photo albums a couple of days ago, I came across pictures from our trip to Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park (California) in July, 1990. The area is breathtakingly beautiful, so I decided to scan a few Yosemite photos and share with you. These pictures were taken with a 35mm film camera. (FYI: The park will celebrate its 125th anniversary on October 1, 2015.)

Rising more than 3,000 feet above the
valley floor, El Capitan is the largest
monolith of granite in the world.

Half Dome is perhaps the most recognized
symbol of Yosemite, rising nearly 5,000 feet
above the valley floor.
Here's another view of Half Dome,
taken from the valley floor.
Yosemite Falls (2,425 ft) flows approximately from
November through July. Since we were there in July,
the water flow was lighter but still impressive.
At the base of the lower portion
of Yosemite Falls, just one of many
beautiful waterfalls in the park.
You'll find more information about this magnificent national park here: Yosemite National Park

You should be able to zoom in and out on this map.

    1. I understand the park is quite crowded these days. Maybe a visit in September after school starts would be a good time to go.

    1. I have a long "one day, maybe" list! There's so much to see here in the U.S. and around the world.

  6. I have such fond memories of Yosemite, which is not that far from where I live now in the Central Valley. As a child, we spent at least one week every summer there, camping, hiking, and enjoying the scent in the air while my mom cooked our breakfasts and dinners. Later, as a teen, I went with groups and had such a wonderful time, too.

Thanks for sharing...and reminding me of this beautiful place. I haven't gone again, as I fear it will be nothing like I remembered.

    1. I know what you mean! We spent many summertime vacations on South Padre Island when I was a child. I now understand it's a spring break destination. I'm sure I'd be disappointed at how it has been commercialized over the years.

  7. So beautiful! I've never been to Yosemite, but we might try to squeeze in a trip before July. We bought an annual National Parks pass last year during our road trip and we want to take advantage of it while we have it!

    1. It's definitely worth a visit but since it's relatively close to populous areas, I understand it can sometimes be crowded. So I'd say planning ahead would be a good idea.

  8. Stunning photos. I love the bluey colour of the mountains. I have been skiing to Lake Tahoe, but clearly didn't see everything I should have.

  9. Yosemite is not easy to access during the winter months. According to the website, some parts of the park are closed from November to May or June because of snow.

  10. It has been years since I was there. It is very awe inspiring.
