Snapshot Saturday - Coffee+Pacific Northwest

Seattle and Coffee.
It's true. There's a coffee kiosk on just about every corner in my part of the world. Even with a population of only 70,000 people, the small Washington town where I live has dozens of drive-thru coffee shops. Here are photos of a few that thrive just a few miles from my home.

BigFoot Java - a local coffee chain
This structure ("Cowgirls Coffee") is actually shaped like a tea kettle (see the handle on the right?)
I couldn't get a photo of the whole thing, including the spout, without risking my life in traffic!
In case you can't decipher it, that says "Bikini Baristas."

Looks homey, doesn't it? The drive-thru is around back.

  1. I love those coffee shops...and your part of the world. I have been to Seattle and the islands, as well as a few other towns, over the years. My first trip to Seattle was in the 60s...and in 1973, I spent a few days there. I loved everything about it. And whenever I go there, I sigh and say: Why can't I live here? I went to a wedding on San Juan Island in 2007, and thought I was in a dream.

I really love that last shop....looks like a great place to sit a spell...LOL

    1. My writing group meets at Starbucks, which is nice, but it doesn't have the personality of these kiosks. I'll go on a quest to find more quirky coffee shops for future posts.

  2. I love these! How fun! And I too love Seattle...hope to get there one day again and maybe we can meet up and have coffee in one of these delightful shops!

  3. I love coffee shops, especially small ones not like Starbucks. These look like fun! My son took a trip to Vancouver and Seattle last year and he was impressed by the coffee :)

    1. I'm not sure why coffee is such a big deal here, but it sure is!

  4. In this world of strip malls and cookie cutter style stores it is great to see something that is a little different. My favourite would be the cowgirl coffee store that looks like a kettle. Not only does the building look really cool, it reminds me of my favourite icecream store called cows that is only in Canada (I wish they would come to Virginia!).

    1. I agree, and I hope these little coffee shops are able to survive.

  5. Wow! You finally did what I always say I want to do whenever I come to Washington State--take photos of all those creative coffee kiosks. I LOVE your photos, and since I know most of these are located near high traffic areas, you get an award for bravery too. BTW, you are a wonderful photographer, my friend!

    1. Thanks for stopping by to leave a comment. I'm planning more excursions around the area to take photos of more of these unique shops, but I'm hoping to convince my husband to act as chauffeur next time.

  6. What a fun project, Sandy! I'd love to visit all the shops. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your wonderful photos. Individuality seems harder and harder to come by. (Once again I have illegal characters in my URL. I wonder which those are? http? :? //? .?

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Dace, and leaving a comment. I'm so glad you enjoyed the photos. As for those illegal characters, you're such a rebel! I guess that's coming through in your URL.

  7. I love the themed coffee shops.
Coffee and cafe's are big business in Australia, but a big part of the experience is sitting and chatting or watching the world go by and getting to know your barista so that they start making your coffee the way you like as soon as walk in the door :-)

    1. That sounds like delightful -- kind of like the neighborhood pub but with caffeine instead of alcohol.

  8. Those are adorable coffee kiosks. I'm just craving a sweet coffee as my throat is beginning to hurt. I'd love to be able to drive through one.

    1. My throat is scratchy too. Seasonal allergies. I think a cup of hot tea would be best for me.

  9. What cute little shacks. They're set up mainly for drive through I expect, doesn't look like there'd be much time to sit and linger. I don't drink coffee at all, and so don't go to cafes all that much unless i'm going for lunch.

    1. Many of these coffee shops offer varieties of hot tea. I'm actually more of a tea drinker myself -- chai tea latte. Yum.

  10. I want a coffee shop...maybe a coffee shop/bookstore combo? With fresh bread!

    Here's my Saturday Snapshot.

  11. America is just amazing. There is just no lack of ambition. It is sort of if you can think of a good idea that it is just going to happen, whatever. Love the cow teapot.
