Saturday Snapshots - #Hike on May Valley Trail

Tired of my hiking photos? Well, here are a few more, this time from the May Valley Trail in Squak Mountain State Park, Washington. I hiked this trail on March 19 with my son, daughter-in-law, and almost-five-year-old granddaughter. I'm proud to say that I was able to keep up.

Lots of trails interconnected, so we aren't sure how far we hiked; however, my FitBit says I walked 8.5 miles during that twenty-four hour period.

My granddaughter led the way, but we didn't let her get very far ahead. We made enough noise that we surely scared away any bears, but we didn't want to take any chances!

Lots of moss - waving like tattered flags from the trees and
encasing branches like a velvet coat.

Windfall.

If you stop and look closely, it's surprising what you might see.
This little guy was about two inches long.

Heading back to the car along a forest service road.

  1. This reminds me of the woods I used to play in behind my house when I was growing up in Pittsburgh. Completely undeveloped, very steep little hills, and the fallen trees and moss!No trails however. Bet your little granddaughter had a blast!

  3. Love seeing all you hiking pictures. 8.5 miles on your Fitbit! Great job! I hope to do a little nature walking this year. I won't go so far as to call it hiking!

  5. At this point, I would rather look at your hiking photos than actually hike...LOL. I love the woodsy surroundings; the huge trees; the critters, not so much; but your photos make me feel as though I'm there. An "Accidental Hiker," like "The Accidental Tourist," by Anne Tyler. LOL.

  6. Bravo to you all for hiking so many miles! Your photos are quite like what we have in my neck of the woods, coniferous forests with bears. Thanks for sharing!

  8. Hi Sandra,

It looks as though you enjoyed some special family time together and the pictures complete the story.

I have been meaning to join this excellent meme for some time now, although hubbie is the photographer in our house, so we may have to share a post, if that's allowed.

Thanks for sharing and enjoy the rest of your weekend:)

  9. The mileage shown on my FitBit was for the 24-hour period so it included walking the dog around our neighborhood. Still, it was a pretty long hike!

  11. You know, there are some beautiful places down here in Miami, but I'll trade you! I've longed to live up north my whole life.... I've never even seen snow up close and personal, would you believe? You might think I'm lucky to have the beaches and the sun, but, to be honest, I am SO tired of the heat.... And I would SO love to hike in woods, with mountains in the distance.... so I think you're VERY lucky to have these things near you! I love all your pics!!

  12. I never get tired of hiking photos! Looks like a gorgeous park & a great hike. Especially interesting to me because we traveled the whole US and hiked in almost every state...but WA is one of only three that I haven't been to yet! Must get there - looks beautiful.
