Saturday Snapshot - Mount Rainier

This is my first time participating in Snapshot Saturday, so I thought I'd post a picture of a feature that dominates the area where I live. Mount Rainier. I've only lived in the Pacific Northwest about ten years, but friends who've been here all their lives say the same thing: they are awed by The Mountain and seeing it never gets old. I'll be driving down the road, turn a corner, and there it is in the distance, filling the horizon. This time I was near Sumner, Washington, visiting a local quilt shop. I just had to pull over and take one more photo to add to my Mount Rainier collection.

Snapshot Saturday is hosted by West Metro Mommy Reads. To participate in Saturday Snapshot: post a photo that you (or a friend or family member) have taken then leave a direct link to your post in the Mister Linky below. Photos can be old or new, and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give in the caption is entirely up to you. Please don’t post random photos that you find online.

    1. I can understand why you'd expect to see a photo of someplace in Texas! I was born and raised in the Dallas area but now live in the Pacific Northwest. I love it here, but I'm still a Texan at heart. The books I've written so far are set in Texas.

  3. I, like Louise, was surprised to see Mount Rainer on your blog titled Writing With a Texas Twang. Lovely shot. The way you describe seeing is the same way I saw the skyline of the city of Houston each morning when I worked there.

    1. I felt that way about the Dallas skyline. The neon "Flying Red Horse" was a major downtown feature when I was growing up. Now it's lost among the skyscrapers.

  4. It is an awe-inspiring location... my husband and I stayed at Paradise Lodge for our tenth wedding anniversary getaway. It was wild flower season and one of the most beautiful natural phenomena that I have ever seen and explored. I remember hiking very early in the morning up to the snow line and to see the glacier and having the 'summit-ers' race by us on the trail in a rush to get to the summit base camp. I was amazed they could carry that much weight in their packs and move so fast! What a gorgeous day and a beautiful memory ... thanks!

    1. What a terrific memory. Now that my husband is retired, I'm hoping we'll be able to visit the mountain more often. Wild flower season is beautiful, as is autumn.

  5. Welcome to Saturday Snapshots! And I love the Pacific Northwest! Every time I visit Oregon or Washington, I want to move there. Seriously. But I'm still in California...LOL.

Thanks for visiting my blog, and enjoy your weekend.

    1. It is a beautiful place to live, but February is not the best time to be here. We have so many drizzly, dark days. I've found that the trick is to just go ahead and get out and walk. My dog appreciates my attitude!

  6. A very imposing picture. Your description reminded me of visits to Paris when the Eiffel Tower suddenly looms in the background. Here's Mine

  7. Where do you live? We live in Puyallup. My library has a perfect view of "the mountain" on a clear day!

    1. I live in Auburn, but my critique group meets in Puyallup. It's a great little town. I never tire of the view of the mountain on my drive there -- assuming it isn't hidden by clouds.

  8. I feel the same way about our closest mountains (Mt. Hood and St. Helens)--and about Rainier, when I head up to Washington. Especially that first glimpse after a streak of rainy days, feels as magical as a rainbow.

    1. I've skied at Mt. Hood and stayed at Timberline Lodge. Breath-taking. I'm ready to go back!
