Where or When - Teaser Tuesday

14962
I'm about halfway through this book, and I'm enjoying Anita Shreve's writing. She spends a lot of time examining the thoughts and actions of her characters, which means the plot is definitely slow-moving. But it also means that I get to know and care about the characters and want (no, NEED) to find out how the story ends. I will admit, however, that I've read many books by this author, and although I'm enjoying this story, it is not one of my favorites. (Copyright date is 1993.)

Here's my two-sentence snippet from
Page 69 (paperback copy).

Teaser:
He wondered, while he ate his sandwich at the bar of the inn, if he would know Siân Richards if she walked in now, if when their eyes met she would know him. He'd been replaying various scenarios for days, imagining their first encounter after thirty-one years.

Genre: Literary Fiction
Length: 240 Pages
Amazon Link: Where or When
Other Books by This Author: Anita Shreve's Amazon Author Page

Synopsis from Goodreads:
What would you do if out of the blue, you received a letter from your first love? Siân Richards sees no reason why she can't write back to Charles Callahan. After all, it's been thirty years and they are both married with families. But when they decide to meet again, an innocent correspondence becomes a dangerous intimacy. Swept up in the past and consumed by an obsessive love, Charles and Siân risk everything to be together. A heart-wrenching, suspenseful story with an unforgettable conclusion, Where or When is also a 'thoughtful, beautifully written contemporary romance' (The Washington Post).

  1. I haven't read any Anita Shreve, though I do have a couple on my shelf. I hear she's good, so maybe I'll make time for them this fall.
Today I'm featuring Sisterland by Curtis Sittenfeld

    1. She is an excellent writer, but her books tend to move slowly. I'm okay with that.

    1. She has written quite a few books. The ones I've read would be classified as "women's fiction."

  8. That is a long time before meeting up! I have really enjoyed some of Anita Shreve's books but I have to be in the right mood to read them. As you say they are books to savour not to race through. Thanks for visiting my TT http://cleopatralovesbooks.wordpress.com/2014/08/12/teaser-tuesday-august-12/

    1. I'm the same way. Sometimes I want a book that dashes ahead, and other times I want the story to slowly unfold. The books I've read by this author are definitely the "slowly unfolding" type.

  9. I read this one a long time ago, so it isn't fresh in my mind....but I would have to say it wasn't my favorite by this author, either. Thanks for sharing...and I do like the premise of it.

  14. Not a run of the mill romance, with both characters married to others. Sounds interesting though.

  16. 31 years later! I like the idea. Makes me wonder what happened to seperate them. And I don't mind a slow moving plot if the characters are well developed. I'm into character driven books and movies. I'll have to try this one.
Thanks for stopping by my tease.
