Drippy Day #Hike - #SaturdaySnapshots

The weather isn't always wet and dreary in the Pacific Northwest; but when it is, we dress for the occasion and keep on going. Yesterday I joined the hardy folks from the Auburn Senior Center for a 6-mile trek in Discovery Park and around the Chittenden (Ballard) Locks. The temps were in the lower 40s (F), and when we left the woods, we faced stiff winds. Brrrr! Here are a few photos I took along the way. Click on pictures to enlarge.

Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of
night stays these couriers hikers from the
swift completion of their appointed rounds.

We emerged from the woods and saw
this view of Puget Sound from Magnolia Bluff.

Don't get too close to the edge!

Beautiful view of the sound.
On to the Chittenden Locks, where we watched
two boats navigate the locks. A yacht and...
a much smaller vessel.
"Salmon Waves" sculpture at the locks.

More public art in Magnolia.
Our hiking was rewarded with lunch at Serendipity Cafe in Seattle's Magnolia neighborhood. My Monte Cristo sandwich added back all the calories I'd just expended hiking!

FYI: The group explored this area in April, 2017, too. Here's the link to photos from that outing: Chittenden Locks - Springtime

  2. Oops! Let me try again!

I love seeing your hikes, even on your dreary days. I hope to do a lot more hiking after I retire. I especially love the wave sculpture.

It's Multicultural Children's Book Day! Stop by my blog and celebrate with us.

  3. Thanks for stopping by, Deb. I've been wondering if Saturday Snapshot participants were getting bored with my hiking photos! Thanks for letting me know that you enjoy them.
Now I'm going to hop over to your blog to see your post.

  4. Bored? As our mutual friend Ron says, "Surely you jest!" They are wonderful Keep up the good work.

You are braver than i am. The longest distance I got from my warm house yesterday was trips to the mailbox at the end of the driveway.

    GRIN.

  5. Thanks for leaving a comment, Colleen. Believe it or not, only a few drops of rain sprinkled the group. I think the wettest weather must have been farther south, around Auburn. We were chilly, however, especially when the wind kicked up.

  9. Thanks for your comment, Vicki. The only thing that would keep us from hiking is unsafe driving conditions or unsafe conditions at our destination. When we had fierce windstorms, the senior center came up with alternate places to hike.
I never would have guessed that I'd be hiking as a senior citizen, but I'm loving it. Part of the fun for me is taking pictures and posting them on Saturday Snapshots.

  14. Lynne, the locks were fascinating. I always enjoy sculptures, too, especially in public settings where anyone can enjoy them.

  17. Hi, Kelly. Maybe you can join our group! You don't have to be an Auburn resident to participate. As for stamina, I'd do a lot better if I'd lose 20 or 30 pounds.
