Chorus Lines, Caviar, and Corpses - Book Beginnings on Friday and The Friday 56

20702347
The book's tagline says: Kick up your heels for the first Happy Hoofers Mystery! If you like cozies, then you'll enjoy this one. Five middle-aged tap-dancing women are hired as the entertainment on a Russian Volga River cruise. But the boat is definitely not a luxury liner. Since this is a cozy, there's a murder or two involved, of course. The book also includes several recipes (Beef Strogonoff - yum!) as well as travel tips. But best of all, the main characters are likable, believable, and just plain fun!

Book Beginning:

"Keeping On Our Toes"
It all started when Mary Louise decided we needed to exercise. We are five close friends, who've all managed to stay fit over the years. Still, when we moved into our fifties, we knew we had to watch what we ate and become more active.
We considered all the ways there are to exercise. What we really loved was dancing, especially tap dancing, so we took a class and worked out some routines. Before long, we were asked to perform at a local senior center ... and then at a community service luncheon... and one gig led to another.

The Friday 56 (from 56% on my Kindle):
The inspector wrote three pages of notes. They were in Russian, of course, so I couldn't even read them upside down. I was getting nervous.

Genre: Cozy Mystery
Length: 304 Pages

  1. Hi Sandra,

I am assuming that 'The Happy Hoofers' referred to in the series title, are the troupe of middle-aged tap dancers, so I guess that they will be assisting in helping to solve the murder or two you mention, rather than any of them becoming a victim! Russia is not really the place you want to have too close an encounter with the local police!

This series sounds just a little too cozy for my liking, although I like the design of the cover art and beef strogonoff sounds delicious to me!

Thanks for sharing, it looks as though you have enjoyed some great holiday celebrations, if your Seattle shots are anything to go by :)

    1. You're right -- The Happy Hoofers are the dance troupe and, no, they are not murder victims. Since there are five Hoofers and this is the first book in a series, I'm guessing future books will feature the other four women and their stories.
My reading interests are eclectic, so one week I'll be reading about Genghis Khan's wives and the next about tap dancing women. It was time to read something lighthearted.
Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment.

  2. The title really grabs me...I can sense lots of fun emanating from these pages. Then the blurb and excerpt sealed the deal. This one must go on my list. Thanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog. Enjoy the rest of the holiday season!

  5. That is a switch. From tap dancing to Russian. They don't seem to go together.
