Cinque Terre, Italy - Saturday Snapshots

Lately, my husband and I have been talking about doing some traveling, and that led us to reminisce about places we've been. One of our favorites was the Cinque Terre ("Five Lands") area of Italy, which we visited in 2001. Hard to believe it was that long ago!
Then several days ago my daughter-in-law loaned me a book - Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter - and much of the story is set in the Cinque Terre! So I pulled out my photo album from our Italy trip, scanned the film-camera photos, and decided to feature a few of them on today's Saturday Snapshots. I'm focusing on the town of Manarola today, since that's where we stayed. Here's a map to get you oriented.

We walked from Manarola to Corniglia
along a hiking path overlooking the sea, but

we didn't take this stairway down to the water

Amazing photos. Wonderful that you could spend time hiking and not just sped through these places in a car. The first photo is like one taken from a fairy tale.

Cinque Terre always looks such an amazing place. Fascinating to see the boats and all those stairs. I hope you get your next holiday soon.

Cinque Terre is an area I've wanted to visit for a long time. Your photos capture what I hope to experience!

The Cinque Terre has been named a World Heritage Site since we visited. It is certainly deserving of that designation.

Cinque Terre is one place I did NOT get to when I was in Italy. Love these photos...would love to get there someday:)

Thank you! I wish I'd had a digital camera back then, but we got some pretty good photos anyhow.

It was a delightful place.

I'd like to spend a month in Italy. Even though we were there for a couple of weeks, there's so much we didn't have time to see. I'm sure even a month wouldn't be long enough.

Even if we're not able to spend much time in a place, I like to walk around as much as we can. Our walk overlooking the sea was amazing, even though we didn't venture down to the water!

Sandra Nachlinger said...

I'd love to go back.

It's impossible to see everything! Maybe you'll make it there on your next trip.

Now that my husband is retired, we're looking forward to traveling.

I'm glad you enjoyed them. I'll probably post more next Saturday.

Your photos made me feel as if I were looking at a travel magazine. Italy is such a different place from anywhere I have ever visited.

I would love to see one of those towns/cities that is on the side of a cliff like that.

So beautiful! I'm afraid my fear of heights wouldn't allow me to walk down that stairway down to the water.

I like the look of that town a lot , and especially the Main street. Looks like a fabulous stroll. I'll have to add that area to my list of places to go in Italy. :)

Interesting! I read Beautiful Ruins last year but just got around to posting a review today. I wrote the review right away, but...I guess it says something that I wasn't enthusiastic about posting the review. But the high point was the description of the scenes in Italy, so I love your photos!
