Three Lakes Trail, Colorado - Saturday Snapshots

I'm looking through old photo albums again and came across these pictures from Colorado. In August, 1989, my son and I spent a week camping with my parents near Crested Butte/Gunnison, CO, and one of our day trips was to Lost Lake Slough. Here are pictures from that excursion. (Click on photos to enlarge.)
"Easy" is a relative term.
(Note the switchbacks in red.)
Wildflowers blooming along the shores of
Lost Lake Slough
Aspen lined portions of the trail
Other areas were shaded by evergreens
Occasionally we'd come to a clearing and get a glimpse of
Lost Lake Slough below
We stopped for a rest at Dollar Lake,
then began our trek back to the slough
Someday I'll post about the time my mom and I got lost and encountered a bear on this trail. But that's another story!

    1. Your mountain photos are gorgeous. Although I love the seashore, I'm drawn to the mountains too.

    1. I wish I'd had a digital camera back then, but I'm happy to have come home with these pictures with my old 35mm film camera. The area truly is beautiful, and it would be hard to take a bad picture there.

    1. There are wonderful trails all over the Rockies. This actually was a fairly easy hike (and short) with beautiful views all around. I'm ready to go back!

    1. These photos definitely bring back memories for me. My son spent several weeks every summer camping with my parents in Colorado, and I went a few times too. Those were special times that both of us shared with them.

    1. Summer in Colorado is glorious, especially after the heat in Texas. My parents lived in a suburb of Dallas, and they'd take their motorhome to Colorado and camp there all summer. What a great retirement they had! My son and I were so lucky to share some of those good times with them.

  7. Wow those photos are so clear. I love the name Lost Lake Slough. Slough in England is not very photogenic, and was sort of insulted in a poem by John Betjeman with the line "Come friendly bombs and fall on Slough"

    1. The name took on special significance after my mom and I got lost there once. Number One Rule: Don't leave the main trail!
