Saturday Snapshot - Moclips

Several years ago, my Puyallup, WA, writing group went on a weekend retreat to Moclips on the Pacific Coast of Washington. Never heard of Moclips? I'm not surprised. It's an out-of-the-way place, and that's just what we all wanted. Here are a few photos of the area. I'm ready to go back! (Click on photos to enlarge.)

A little history

No crowds!
The beach was close to our motel.

Not exactly 5-star but comfy, plus they had a hot tub!

Saturday Snapshot is hosted by West Metro Mommy Reads. To participate, post a photo on your blog that you (or a friend or family member) have taken. Then leave a direct link to your post in the Mister Linky on today's West Metro Mommy Reads blog post. Then check out all the beautiful photos posted by everyone! Photos can be old or new, and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give in the caption is entirely up to you. Please don't post random photos that you find online.

  1. I was delighted to see that West Metro Mommy posted photos from Rothenburg ob der Tauber (Germany). I've been there a couple of times, and I adore that walled town. Check out the photos at http://westmetromommy.blogspot.com/2014/03/saturday-snapshot-march-8.html

  3. What a beautiful place Moclips is (and no I'd never heard of it before). In a way I'm glad that big old hotel was destroyed, it would totally change the place. Great idea to include a map too.

    1. Each motel room had a little kitchenette area, living room, and bedroom(s) -- just right for my writing group.

  5. The little out of the way spots are so much fun as they are something different and make for a unique travel story and often have some interesting tales or photos to share.

  6. I grew up and lived for 20 years in "Eastern" Washington, and I had never heard of Moclips. Now I want to go check it out. Just beautiful!

    1. There's not much to do there -- no shopping, no fine restaurants -- and that makes it a great place for a writing retreat.

  7. I love Washington, too! Seattle is a favorite go-to spot, but the quiet coastal places are actually the best spots to linger. I love Google maps!

Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.

  8. What a nice place! I love out of the way places where there are few people on the beach. That's how the beach that we go to is.

    1. So many beaches are jammed with people. Like you, I much prefer a quiet out-of-the-way place. I hope you'll post some photos of your beach.

  10. I've been to Puyallup, but never heard of Moclips. I will have to ask my mom (Silverdale) and brother (Bainbridge Is.) if they have hard of it. Looks like a great place.

    1. It's a tiny place and not exactly a tourist mecca, but we enjoyed our weekend there.

  11. I toured that area twenty years ago ... so very beautiful! We stayed up in Forks at Kalaloch Lodge. I still remember massive trees that looked like toothpicks were washed up on the coastal beach ... it amazed me! I felt so very small.

    1. I've heard that Kalaloch Lodge is beautiful. Another lovely old hotel is Lake Quinault Lodge. It is on a lake, and there are lots of walking trails nearby. I guess I'll have to post more photos from the Washington coast.
